IBIZA

IBIZA (Catalan: Eivissa)


Where is situated 

Is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea, in eastern Spain, 79 Km (49 miles)off the coast of city of Valencia.

General aspects

   It's the third large Balearic Island after Majorca and Minorca. The main cities are: Ibiza, Sant Antony di Portmany e Santa Eularia des Riu. It's highest point, called Sa Talaia is 475 meters above sea level.
   The origin of the nameof the island is in the Phoenician language - Yibosim, and the name was dedicated to the Egyptian god of music and dance Bes.
   Catalan language shares co-official status with spanish and because of the influence of tourism other language like German, English and Italian are widely spoken.
   Ibiza is very famous for its nightlife and the elctronic, house, trance and techno music.It's well known also for its summer club scene which attracts a very large number of young tourists.
Some of the well known nightclubs are Privilege, Space, Pacha, Amnesia, DC 10, Es Paradis.
The live music event Ibiza Rocks has helped to redefine the Ibiza party landscape.



Climate

The summer climate of Ibiza ranges in the upper 20°C (75°F), often reaching 30°C (86°F) with an averagehigh in July 29, 7°C and august 30,3°C. Precipitations are low in June (11 mm; 0,43 inches), July (5 mm; 0,2 inches) and August (18 mm; 0,71 inches).

   There are also ferries from the harbour of Sant Antony and Ibiza town to Barcelona, Majorca, Denia and Valencia. The main operators that connect the four Balearic Islands to mainland Spain are:

  • and of course explore gorgeous sandy beaches, crystal cler waters and hidden coves like: Las Salinas Beach,Cala Jondal Beach, Benirras Beach, Cala Bassa Beach, Cala Nova Beach, Cala Salada Beach.




 What to eat

The visitor shoud try ensaimada - a sort of flat, softy pastry and flao - a sweet cheese and mint flan.
